The Norvic International Hospital-Institutional Review Committee (NIH-IRC) operates under the delegation of the Ethical Review Board (ERB) of Nepal Health Research Council (NHRC). NIH-IRC, approved by the national ERB, follows NHRC guidelines and SOPs in approving and overseeing research proposals, ensuring ethical clearance for studies conducted nationally or internationally, including clinical trials. The committee, reformed in 2080/81, adheres to established guidelines and communicates regularly with NHRC, maintaining its commitment to ethical research practices.THE ROLE OF AN IRC:
- Safeguard the dignity, rights, safety, and well-being of research participants.
- Conduct a comprehensive and unbiased review of health-related research proposals.
- Ensure compliance with national ethical guidelines prescribed by NHRC.
- Provide independent, competent, and timely evaluations.
- Execute tasks free from bias or influence (political, institutional, professional, market, etc.).
- Have the authority to request modifications to research protocols.
- Enforce and monitor the ethical conduct of approved research projects.
- Address issues related to informed consent and the rights of research participants.
- Possess the power to suspend or halt any research project that violates ethical standards.
- Supervise and monitor approved research projects to uphold ethical integrity.
