Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology provides diagnostic services to the hospital regarding bacteriology, virology, parasitology, immunology and serology. The department provides accurate results on clinical material within the shortest possible time. With the round the clock laboratory services, and with the use of state-of-the-art equipment the department carries out full range of high quality microbiology services, from routine cultures to molecular diagnostic testing.  Some of the tests carried at the department are:

  • Faecal occult blood test – This is a lab test usually done for checking hidden (occult) blood in stool
  • Microalbumin test –Used to detect small levels of a blood protein (albumin) in urine
  • Stool DNA test – This is a non-invasive laboratory test, used to identify DNA changes in the cells of a stool sample
  • Urinalysis – In this sample of urine is evaluated to detect disorders such as urinary tract infection, kidney disease and diabetes
